Special joint committee on redistricting

Lawmakers on Monday drafted new lines for the nine U.S. House states. Special joint committee on redistricting

BOSTON (AP) – State lawmakers released a new map of the Massachusetts congressional hearing on Monday.

The map avoids any drastic changes in the regional line, in large part because the state holds the same number of congregation meetings – nine. That eliminates the need to unite regions and may force lawmakers on the level to oppose each other.

One of the controversies came in the fourth state Congressional District, of the Democratic U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss has it now.

Members of the Drawing Democracy Coalition, an umbrella group of supporters, blamed the map for not connecting Fall River and New Bedford in the same area.

The group emphasized that the two cities’ immigrants would be kept in the same zone to boost politics and provide better opportunities for voters there to choose their candidates.

While the map the legislators proposed connects the Fall River, it covers the entire city in the 4th District and places New Bedford in the 9th district. As a result, the group said Fall River residents could continue to enjoy healthy voting from affluent Boston neighborhoods, such as Brookline, Newton and Wellesley.

“The Coalition for Social Justice and Drawing Democracy talked to many locals about redistricting, and we heard loud and clear that they did not want the Fall River to split between the two congressional districts, and that they wanted Fall River and New Bedford to be .one in the same region, “said Dax Crocker, Coordinator of Democracy HUB for the Coalition for Social Justice, a member of the Committee for Democracy Coalition.

Auchincloss welcomed the new congregation congregation line.

“While the core components of Zone 4th remain, there is one major change,” Auchincloss said in a written statement. “I’m glad all the Fall River water will be available now in the area.”

Auchincloss said he has worked with local officials and state lawmakers to ensure the Fall River recovers from the disease.

“The fourth round of voting will continue in urban, rural and agricultural areas. They will continue to vote for both blue and red. They will continue to go both to Boston and Providence, ”he said.

The map will increase the size of the colored population living in the seventh congressional district, which is only represented by a black member of the current U.S. delegation, U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley.

The constituency, which was created after the 2010 census, is intended to have a smaller turnout. US Rep. Michael Capuano initially represented him until Pressley defeated him in 2018.

All nine members of the Congressional state delegation are Democrats.

Ten years ago, the state was forced to shrink by 10 to nine zones, a move avoided this time when Massachusetts reported an increase in population – just over seven million – to hold all nine seats.

One goal of the special joint committee is redistricting. released on the expected map, is to have a residential area in each region with a population of about – 781,100 each.
